The MSI B550 Tomahawk is a motherboard designed to support AMD Ryzen desktop processors. It is compatible with AMD Ryzen 5000 and 3000 series processors, as well as AMD Ryzen 4000 G-Series processors. However, it is not compatible with AMD Ryzen 5 3400G and Ryzen 3 3200G processors.
The motherboard features an AMD B550 chipset and has four DDR4 memory slots that support a maximum capacity of 128GB. It supports various memory speeds, including DDR4 1866/2133/2400/2667/2800/2933/3000/3066/3200 MHz by JEDEC and higher speeds through A-XMP OC mode.
For expansion slots, it has one PCIe 4.0/3.0 x16 slot (PCI_E1), one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (PCI_E3) that supports x4 speed, and two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots. The availability of supported specifications depends on the installed processor. When using devices in the M.2_2, PCI_E2, and PCI_E3 slots simultaneously, the PCI_E3 slot will be unavailable, and the M2_2 slot only supports PCIe x2.
Multi-GPU support includes 2-Way AMD CrossFire Technology. The motherboard also provides onboard graphics with an HDMI 2.1 port and a DisplayPort, supporting a maximum resolution of 4096×2160 @60Hz. It offers a maximum shared memory of 16GB.
In terms of storage, the motherboard includes six SATA 6Gb/s ports and two M.2 slots. The M2_1 slot, connected to the AMD processor, supports PCIe 4.0/3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s, while the M2_2 slot, connected to the AMD B550 chipset, supports PCIe 3.0×4. RAID configurations are supported for both SATA storage devices (RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10) and M.2 NVMe storage devices (RAID 0 and RAID 1).

Audio features on the motherboard include a Realtek ALC1200/ALC1220P Codec, providing 7.1-channel high-definition audio and support for S/PDIF output.
Networking capabilities consist of a Realtek RTL8125B 2.5Gbps LAN controller and a Realtek RTL8111H 1Gbps LAN controller.
