The MSI B450 Tomahawk Max II is a motherboard designed to support 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Generation AMD Ryzen processors, including Ryzen with Radeon Vega Graphics and Ryzen with Radeon Graphics. It utilizes the AMD B450 chipset.
In terms of memory, the motherboard has four DDR4 memory slots that support a maximum capacity of 128GB. The supported memory speeds include 1866MHz, 2133MHz, 2400MHz, 2667MHz, and various other speeds depending on the processor installed. It supports dual-channel memory architecture and both non-ECC and ECC UDIMM memory (non-ECC mode).
The expansion slots on the motherboard include one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (PCI_E1) that operates at x16 speed with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen processors, while Ryzen with Radeon Vega Graphics and Ryzen with Radeon Graphics processors operate at x8 speed. There’s also one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot (PCI_E4) that supports x4 mode and three PCIe 2.0 x1 slots. The speed of PCI_E4 is reduced to x2 when devices are installed in the PCI_E2 or PCI_E3 slots.
For onboard graphics, the motherboard provides a DVI-D port with a maximum resolution of 1920×1200 @ 60Hz and an HDMI 2.1 port with a maximum resolution of 4096×2160 @ 60Hz. The maximum shared memory for graphics is 16GB and is only available when using compatible processors.
The motherboard supports 2-Way AMD CrossFire Technology for multi-GPU setups.
In terms of storage, the AMD CPU supports two SATA 6Gb/s ports and one M.2 slot (Key M) that supports PCIe 3.0 x4 or PCIe 3.0 x2 (depending on the processor) and SATA 6Gb/s. The M.2 slot supports various storage device sizes. The AMD B450 chipset provides four additional SATA 6Gb/s ports, but SATA5 and SATA6 will be unavailable when an M.2 device is installed.
RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10 are supported for SATA storage devices with the AMD B450 chipset.
The motherboard offers various USB ports, including USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps Type-C and Type-A ports on the back panel, USB 3.2 Gen 1 5Gbps ports available through internal connectors, and USB 2.0 ports on the back panel and internal connectors.
For audio, it features the Realtek ALC892/ALC897 Codec, providing 7.1-channel high-definition audio. The motherboard also includes a Realtek 8111H Gigabit LAN controller for networking.
The internal connectors of the motherboard include power connectors, SATA connectors, USB connectors, fan connectors, TPM module connector, audio connector, system panel connectors, chassis intrusion connector, serial port connector, clear CMOS jumper, and 5050 RGB LED strip connectors.
The back panel ports consist of a Flash BIOS button, PS/2 combo port, USB ports, LAN port, HD audio connectors, DVI-D port, HDMI port, and USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps Type-A+C ports.
